Hello! I am a software engineer, comic book geek, and immersive theater performer located in San Francisco, CA, USA.

My current open source / standards work currently focuses on the OpenAPI Specification (OAS) including both the 3.x line and the new 4.0 "Moonwalk" project. I was recently named the first OpenAPI Community Hero for my contributions.

I am a past co-author of the JSON Schema specification, leading the work on draft-07, 2019-09, 2020-12, and the successful effort to restore compatibility between 2020-12 and OAS 3.1.

In addition to specification work, I am currently planning to work on two Python packages:

  • iriuri: Fully RFC 3986/3987-compliant support with a non-GPL (Apache 2.0) license
  • schemasys (tentative name): An authorized fork of jschon expanding support to OpenAPI and other schema-related systems

I am a past contributor to jschon, and any schemasys work of interest to that package will be available for it to adopt.

I'm hoping to reach 25 sponsors in 2025! The OpenAPI Initiative has ambitious goals with versions 3.2, 3.3, and 4.0 of the OpenAPI Specification on the horizon. We'll be able to reach those goals more quickly if I can devote more time to working with the OpenAPI Technical Steering Committee and Technical Developer Community on ideas for those releases, and on doing the actual spec-writing once the ideas are ready. I have a proven track record, having written most of the contributions to 3.0.4 and 3.1.1, both of which were publishd in 2024. Please help me devote more time to open standards and open source, and less to finding and doing contract work!
